So I'm tired. mahan was on call last night and like many typical nights I didn't sleep. actually by the time I did sleep it was 6.30. I've started sleeping at home which is the good thing. its a sign of progress right? Sleeping in hospitals wasn't so shabby, private room, free cable, Internet, free food , shower.. it made a great overnight stay.
But home is always home.
So last night i went to junior league meeting, came home , made all 4 soups in one night.
butternut squash, Persian vegi soup, creamy potato soup and tomato and herb.
I'm not going to lie. I'm a great cook. I don't go by measurements or recipes I think it may have been a distinct taste that my mother gave me when you know when its just right.
I did get rave reviews. That always makes a women feel good.
mahan knows how to flatter me and he does it well.
so after cooking, storing ,cleaning the mess of a kitchen.
strength : cooking
weakness : total lack or organisation and complete mess.
god bless the invention of the dishwasher. If tree savers knew how many loads my washer baby does a day I think i would 'hippy hated'.
so with 3-4 hours of sleep I woke to welcome friends and guests.
we made 106.00 . now... that may not sound like a large donation..
but i only ask $2-5 per person depending if they got a drink or not.
so in that respect, it was a success.
All the money was donated to st judes in memory of April Linford, who is the sister of a friend who died within 2 weeks of finding out she had cancer when she came to visit her sister.
2 weeks!
"Every evening I turn my worries over to God. He's going to be up all night anyway." ~Mary C. Crowley
Oh, my friend, it's not what they take away from you that counts - it's what you do with what you have left. ~Hubert Humphrey
wise words hubert. wise words.

I wish i was super loaded
Money can't make you happy.
There are times when you wish you had enough to prevent others from hurting or leaving us in this world.
Once a month, I have a Charity lunch in my house.
My way of giving back, trying to make some wrongs right in the world.
Last month I did the Mona foundation [www.monafoundation.org ] , this was my way of explaining the Bahai faith, the struggles my parents had to endure as they fled Iran and lost so much [ its hard to tell someone you were once a refugee when you live such a happy blessed life ].
I can honestly say I have never personally given to charity, I donated but never actually went onto a website and felt the huge responsibility. we made $60.00 [ each person donated 2-3 ]
so lunch was a success.
This month I wanted to do St judes. I was set. Jan 31st was soup day.
Last week I had a group of friends over for dinner.
One was special. Her husband and herself came over for the first time.
Her husband has recently started his residency in Anesthesia only 7 months ago.
It also happened that 7 months ago when they moved to Texas , her sister joined her to help them move and settle in. within 2 weeks the sister discovered she has breast cancer and dies.
Moving to a city where you know no one, have 2 children and a husband that works long hours [ 70 + ] is hard enough but to had the deep pain of loss.
I can't speak of understanding... but only imagine.
so at this dinner, I mentioned the charity lunch.
She was so excited to support and attend that i felt I owe her something.
I owe her to make it a success.
So now Jan 31st is a fight against cancer.
and all proceeds will be donated no longer in my name but her sisters.
Times like these I wish i was loaded.
Best i can do is make the damn soup and invite a hell of a lot of really loaded people
